Lately, I have been thinking about how Gina and I had the faith to step out and plant a church, and I wanted to relate that process to you. God began to plant those seeds in us as far back as 2002. There were inklings along the way, but as we got closer, there were a few people and experiences that stick out in my mind as catalysts on our journey. Two people who were important in the process were our friends David and Betsy Hill of City Church Boston. I had been friends with David and Betsy for two years before they publically launched Fenway Church in October of 2008. Leading up to the launch, about 25 of them were meeting in their home in the Fenway area of Boston. David had become one of my best friends so I was determined to be at the launch! It was during that launch that some of the seeds God had planted in my heart began to germinate. That day, I remember thinking, “We could do this!” Suddenly, after seeing it happen, my eyes were opened, hope began to rise in my heart and the idea of church planting went from a distant dream to a possible reality. From that point on, Gina and I began to seriously ask ourselves, “Is God asking us to step out and plant a church?”
How do you know you are called to do this? I will share about that in my next post. In the meantime, join the discussion!
Talking Points
What are the seeds God has planted in your heart for a God-sized dream? Where are you in the process? Is it a distant dream or a possible reality?
Take Action
I would also encourage you to put yourself in situations where people are actually doing what you have dreamed about! This helps take it from a dream to a reality.
