My family is one week out from one of the biggest events of our lives: the launch of Journey Church. I feel so much gratitude toward the people of Journey Church that I felt I must write a letter expressing our sincere love and appreciation. From this point on I will address the people of Journey Church directly.
Dear Journey Church,
What can I say? You have inspired me. The fact that you are still here after four years of difficult labor speaks volumes in and of itself. It speaks volumes of you. Although some of you have been with us longer than others, each of you receives our heart-felt gratitude. You are to be commended.
- Commended for your service
- Commended for your devotion and love for Jesus
- Commended for your willingness to follow wherever God leads
- Commended for making it a joy to pastor you
- Commended for your faithfulness
- Commended for the way you take care of our family
- Commended for your bravery
William Carey once said, “Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God.” You have done just that. You have risked, loved, given, believed and labored – all because of a God-given vision. You have embraced that vision to help people experience the transforming love of Christ whole-heartedly and have run with us, not looking to the right or the left. You have believe in the dream, in a great God and in us.
In the end, We can’t say thank you too many times. As much as we have tried to express our thanks to you, it falls short of how we really feel inside. We are well, overwhelmed.
Thank you for coming on this great and glorious journey with us. May God receive all the glory as Journey Church launches on September 28 and we turn this new page in the history of Journey Church!
Gina and I sincerely love you and are grateful for the relationships we share with you. We count it a privilege to come alongside you to share your joys, to bear one another’s burdens, to walk together in this great mission and to equip you for the work of the ministry.
May God bless you deeply and richly this week.
Our deepest love and appreciation,

Pastor Kent:
Even though I am not a member of your church and visit infrequently because of my membership elsewhere, I feel connected to Journey and sense the love each time I worship with you and the congregation. Looking forward to my next visit.
Warmest,

Dear Kent,
There’s a part of all this that blows past a very subtle sense I got about you ‘way back around 2009 or so. You were one of a big, all-city Tuesday-morning prayer group at the fellowship hall in the Ruggles Baptist Church and someone had asked you to lead worship. Without ginned-up excitement or flair you just brought out the guitar and led. You led real worship in the Spirit and I saw a man committed to giving himself to God. Simplicity in a man of so many “accomplishments” has resulted – in the time I’ve come to know you personally, Kent, and as my pastor – in you being given away, unreservedly – given to the church as the Lord shows in Ephesians 5:25 the husband should give himself to the wife. What is left inside as this gift flows, and as I’ve watched the steadiness of your “intentionality” (so the saying goes) is what I sense is your communion with the King of Life. Thank you!

Dave, you are always so encouraging! Your faith and steadfastness is an example to the whole body at the Journey.
